You have eaten "perfectly" all week and yet the scale has only moved one measly pound! You were sure you would have lost at least three pounds. What's going on?
The reality is, one pound of body fat equals about 3,500 calories. Losing a pound requires a 3,500 calorie deficit. The following scenarios illustrate how an average person might gain or lose weight.
If you added 250 calories from an extra sandwich, fruit salad or a bag of chips to your normal eating plan every day - without boosting your activity level- how long might it take to gain 1 pound?
3,500 calories = 1 pound
3,500 calories / 250 calories per day = 14 days
If you burned 100 extra calories by walking an extra 30 minutes a day five days a week - without boosting your calorie intake - how much weight might you lose in 14 weeks?
100 calories per day x 5 days = 500 calories per week
500 calories per week x 14 weeks = 7,000 calories burned
7,000 calories = 2 pounds of body fat
It is recommended that you do not try to lose more than 2 pounds per week.
Stay committed and be patient, the excess weight did not arrive all at once and it will not disappear overnight.
